Fact or fiction?
You should lift weights quickly to increase the burn.
FICTION: You should lift weights quickly to increase the burn.
FACT: Though it may seem counterintuitive, the opposite is actually true. When you blaze through each move, you often use momentum instead of your muscles, and you also increase your risk of injury. If you go too fast, the stronger muscles will compensate for the weaker muscles. Do the same reps more slowly (try counting to three while you lift up and another three while you lower and you will get more burn for your muscle. Unfortunately lifting slow can be torturous and hence a lot of people don’t like it.
